Special Guest Camp Instructors
Special guest instructors at the 2010 camp are Billy Manne (8th dan ZDK) and Matt Ball (5th dan ZDK) from Victoria.
Billy Manne
8th dan ZDK, Level 8 trainer Muay Thai
Billy Manne’s life has revolved around training and the martial arts since the age of six.
He originally started Judo, then Goju Ryu Karate before walking into the first Bob Jones dojo in Melbourne in 1970 at the age of 18.
He has not stopped training, living and breathing ZDK and martial arts.
Billy was alongside Bob Jones in the seventies when fights occurred every half hour at the doors of Melbourne’s nightclubs. There was no camera surveillance, so fights were a brutal and regular occurrence.
Billy toured with many rock stars including ABBA and the Rolling Stones and was Paul McCartney’s personal bodyguard.
Thirty years ago, Billy opened a full time dojo in Melbourne’s south east and continues to teach from there today.
The dojo now also incorporates a full time gym and Billy employs eight staff to cater for the 900+ strong membership.
Billy holds the rank of 8th dan in Zen Do Kai and Muay Thai and travels annually to Thailand for kickboxing and Muay Thai fight training.
He is also a black belt in Aikido and brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
Billy is known as a tough teacher, but one that is approachable and committed to his students.
Matt Ball
5th dan ZDK, Level 6 trainer Muay Thai, ist internationally certified instructor of Systema - Homo Ludens (under Alex Kostic).
Matt Ball will be drawing from his background of Muay Thai, ZenDoKai, boxing and Systema.
Matt’s understanding of Muay Thai has developed from his many trips to the famous Sityodtong Camp training under the guidance of Kru Yodtong Senenan, Kru Toy Sityodtong and Kru Bob Jones. He has also trained and cornered for many fighters in Australia and Thailand.
In April this year Alex Kostic - founder of Systema Homo Ludens – certified Matt as his first international instructor. This was as much based on Matt’s understanding of Muay Thai, boxing and general martial arts as his growing understanding of Systema.
Matt will be sharing his skills in both Muay Thai and Systema to develop a sense of “play” within our training. Sessions will include mass attack, soft work, breaking structure, developing power, the Thai grapple and pad handling.
